Ingham County Animal Control & Shelter annual awards banquet to honor members of the community who have helped the lives of animals during 2009 will be held at the Lansing Country Club this year. Social hour 6-7 pm, dinner at 7 pm, followed by the awards ceremony. There will also be a silent auction. MC will be announced later. Tickets $35, contact 517-676-8370. 6 pm social hour, 7 pm dinner. $35. (more)

Tribute to Utah Phillips - Mark Dvorak and Ed Trickett

As friends of the late Utah Philips, both Mark Dvorak and Ed Trickett have tales to tell and songs to sing about the folk legend. From their Chicagoland homes, Dvorak and Trickett have gathered these pieces and shaped them into what will be an evening full of songs and stories involving union meetings, strike breakers, scabs, freight hoppers, moonshine, policemen, politicians, and many other very colorful characters as the art of telling or singing a good story was one of Utah's finest skills. Gate opens at 7 pm; doors open at 7:30 pm. General admission seating. Tickets: $15/ $12 Fiddle members/ $5. Students. Tickets available on line or at the door. (more)
